Submission Guidelines
Sword's Edge is always looking for quality
fiction and artwork in the fantasy genre. While the focus of the e-zine
is fantasy, any work in the science fiction genre would also be
welcome. Sword's Edge is a monthly e-zine, and publication of
an accepted piece could be in the next issue, or might be two or three
months later. Upon acceptance, the author or artist will be informed as
to the expected publication date.
Fiction
I'm looking for fantasy and science fiction stories from 1 000 to 10
000 words. Larger works could be serialized, with the consent of the
author. Include fiction in the body of the email, or contact me
to indicate you will be sending it as an attachment, and await my reply
before doing so. I am interested in all types of fantasy, from heroic
sword and sorcery to magic realism, as well as science fiction from
space opera to cyberpunk to hard SF. At this time, I am not considering
horror, though if horror is an integral part of a fantasy or science
fiction story, that would be fine.
Reviews
I'm interested in reviews of books, both new and classic, science
fiction, fantasy or anything that falls anywhere in between. Reviews
should be from 500 to 5 000 words. I would prefer books that are
available in print, but all reviews will be considered. Include reviews
in the body of the email, or contact me to indicate you will be sending it as an attachment, and await my reply before doing so.
Articles
Sword's Edge includes monthly articles on writing fantasy and science
fiction under the banner of the AtFantasy Writers' Workshop. I'm also
interested in any non-fiction piece that deals with fantasy, science
fiction, writing or anything that might be of interest to fans of the
same. Articles should be between 1 000 and 10 000 words. Include
articles in the body of the email, or contact me to indicate you will be sending it as an attachment, and await my reply before doing so.
For Fiction, Reviews and Articles
Please indicate if you would like your email address included with your
story, include any webpage you would like a link to and please send a
short, one paragraph bio.
Artwork
Right now, Sword's Edge needs artwork
for the cover. However, it would be nice to also include artwork along
with stories. Basically, I'm looking for anything in the fantasy vein,
but am also interested in anything with a mythological, medieval or
renaissance subject matter. Science fiction is also welcome. Please contact me before sending the artwork as an attachment, and please wait for my reply before doing so.
Payment
At this time, Sword's Edge
is a completely voluntary venture, which means all we can offer is a
showcase for talent. As such, reprints are welcome. Any fiction or
artwork used will include a link to whatever website the author or
artist requests. If I ever find a way to make this pay, I'll be paying,
but that doesn't look likely right now.
